How much does a patio roof cost?2023-11-07T10:07:30+02:00

There are a few factors that come into play when working out how much it costs to install a patio roof/awning to your home.

1. Style & Type
First and foremost, how much a patio roof/awning costs depends on the style and type of cover you’re looking for. Do you prefer an Adjustable Aluminium Louvre awning (that can open & close), a Fixed IBR roof or a Patio Ceiling Roof (patio roof & ceiling in one)? Or how about a combination of any of the styles, designed to suit your unique site & needs? Depending on your style wishes, your patio roof/ awning will vary in price.

2. Size
The dimensions will play a role in the price. The amount of material needed is determined by the width, length & height the patio roof/awning which in turn determines the price. Whether the patio roof/awning is wall fixed or stand alone will all so influence the price. The size & situation will also determine the labor costs. So here, size does count.

3. Accessories
Moreover, there are plenty of little (or not so little) extras to choose from to make your Patio roof/awning meet all your special wishes. For example, Tiered facias, side elements (blinds/doors & windows), LED lighting, motorised opening mechanisms, see our accessories page on our website for more information.

What size are patio roofs/awnings available in?2023-02-01T10:59:41+02:00

There is no limitation to the size of a Lifestyle Awning solution – it can comprise any number of sections or part of sections. Each section has a maximum dimension of 6 by 3 meters, and sections are joined to create the size you require to create your covered patio area.

Installation time?2023-02-01T11:04:36+02:00

This depends on the design & size of your patio roof/awning. Typically, a standard 6x3m patio roof/awning takes 1 to 2 days to install.

The following factors influence the installation time:

  • Style of awning: An Adjustable Aluminium Louvre awning (that can open & close), a Fixed IBR roof or a Patio Ceiling Roof (patio roof & ceiling in one)
  • Size of awning: +/- 15m2 can be installed per day.
  • Travel time to installation: We are based in Bellville, so the further away from Bellville you are the more travel time is needed which effects the installation time.
  • Accessories: Things like adding lights & motors also add to the installation time.
  • Weather: As it is an outdoor installation & we work with power tools, rainy days will delay the installation.

Your quote will indicate the predicted number of installation days.

Is an adjustable aluminium louvre awning rain proof?2023-02-01T10:58:45+02:00

Yes. Under normal weather conditions, even steady rain, your adjustable aluminium louvre awning itself will not let rain in. In light rain, the louvres can remain partially open for ventilation, but for heavier rain, the fully closed position will block out rain, with the louvres overlapping each other (see diagram). In heavy pours, you may rarely get a fine spray through & if a downpour is heavy enough for your house gutter to overflow, your awning gutter may do the same.

Rainproof does not mean totally waterproof – remember an adjustable louvre awning is an adjustable, opening roof. It should be remembered that an adjustable louvre awning is not & cannot be as waterproof as a conventional fixed & tiled roof. Whilst your adjustable louvre awning brings the benefit of an indoor-outdoor area, it is not 100% proof against severe weather conditions.

Having said all this, the Adjustable Aluminium Louvre roof is by far Lifestyle Awning Solutions’ top seller & we have hundreds of very satisfied Adjustable Aluminium Louvre awning clients who have been enjoying the benefits of a louvre awning for many years.

How does the patio roof box gutter system work?2023-01-16T13:28:48+02:00

Lifestyle awnings have their own internal box gutter system which collects the patio roof/awning’s water and it is drained by a downpipe that is placed where a slight fall has been created (you get to choose before installation where you want the down pipe to be situated, then a slight fall is created to that point). In some installations, more than one downpipe will be required (The size of the patio roof & if it is patio ceiling roof will determine the number of downpipes required).

The Lifestyle Awning system is designed to handle its own rainwater runoff, but not additional load that may fall (perhaps from some height and at some speed) from the house roof.

How do I clean my patio roof/awning?2023-01-16T15:32:07+02:00

The easiest way to clean a Lifestyle Awning is to gently wash it down with a garden hose. Occasional rain will do the job for you, but otherwise gentle mopping (with car body detergent if appropriate) can be used to remove bird droppings and other debris.

If you have any surrounding trees, plants or bushes that may hang over or grow alongside your Awning, be sure to trim back any overgrown branches that could potentially break off and fall on top of your Awning or cause an excess of leaves, twigs and other forms of smaller debris to start collecting.

Before the rainy season check your gutters – you can use a ladder to access the patio roof/awning gutters (don’t climb onto the awning) and check if there are debris free or you can conduct a flood test – temporally block the downpipe with rags & then fill the gutters with water from the hose pipe, once the gutters are half full, switch off the water & check the inside of the awning for any leaks (as the awning has hidden box gutters the gutter issues will manifest on the inside of the awning). Don’t forget to remove the rags from the downpipe. Balls & toys are also known to block the gutters & downpipe.

How Does a New Patio Add Value to a Property?2023-01-16T15:30:09+02:00

A patio can add real estate value in a few different ways.

  • For starters, a patio will add an extra useable outdoor living space that can be enjoyed with family and friends.
  • A patio can often increase the curb appeal of a home.
  • A new patio can increase the value of your home by add extra square footage. This can make your home more spacious and give you more room to grow.
  • By adding a patio to your home, you are adding a valuable amenity that can make your home more appealing to potential buyers and boost home resale value.

Do I need a plan & council approval to add a patio roof/awning to my home?2023-02-01T11:01:16+02:00

The answer nobody wants to hear is Yes. Cape Town city council does require a plan for the addition of a patio roof/awning, it is best to obtain the plan & council go-ahead before installing the awning to prevent any fines & a mad scramble to update your house plans before the sale of your home.

Here is a link to the Building-Plan-Preparation-City-of-Cape-Town.pdf, but don’t stress we can refer you to architects that know our products & will draw up the necessary plan & walk it through council for a reasonable fee (see our partners page).

Some awning installers will tell you, you don’t require plans, best to confirm this with your local council office. We as installers don’t require a plan, but you as the home owner do. If you have a body corporate where you live it’s best to check their requirements as well before installing a patio roof/awning.

How long will it take between my order confirmation and installation?2023-02-01T11:03:37+02:00

A deposit is required to confirm your booking. We’ll then set your installation date for +/-30 working days after receipt of deposit. We’ll be in contact closer to the time to set an exact date. Note that it is working days, no-work rainy days & public holidays will add days to the installation lead time.
